A leading Transport & Logistics Company is looking for a General Manager.

 

Remuneration:

Salary – US$ 6000 to US$ 7000 per month x 12 (Salary depends on qualification, experience and skills set on offer.)

Benefits – Furnished accommodation, medical insurance, company vehicle, leave and 1 x business class flight ticket per annum

 

Requirements:

A.           Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering linked with a relevant certificate in Transport Management

  • MBA will be an added advantage

B.           Experience:

  • Similar Road Transport business (Trucking)

  • Worked with fleet of at least 30 trucks

  • Diesel engines

  • Direct client contact and contract negotiations

  • Minimum 10 years related experience.

C.           Language Ability:

  • Must be good communicator and be fluent in English

  • Arabic will be added advantage.

D.           Computer Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office is requested.

E.            Work Environment:

  • Office and outside visiting clients

  • Warm and humid climate in UAE

  • Fair amount of travelling by road

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

1)           Strategic:

  • Develop clear business strategy in consultation with MD

  • Develop tactical and operational plans, budgets and targets with management team to support business strategy

  • Lead and manage the business to achieve optimum efficiencies and profit margins

  • Present plans and quarterly reports to the board of directors

  • Implement board decisions

2)            Operations:

  • Oversee operations (logistics of cargo road transporting of 50 owned trucks and another 50 trucks subcontracted in)

  • Manage efficient maintenance of fleet.  (on-site workshop)

  • Monitor and manage KPI’s (Fuel usage, tyre usage, breakdowns, turn-around time, labour cost, and customer satisfaction.)

3)            Finances & accounts:

  • Manage expenses within budget.

  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable in an efficient and responsible manner

  • Find ways to improve cost efficiencies

  • Cost effective procurement of consumables (fuel, tyres, spares.)

  • Procurement of capital items

  • Accurate costing to calculate competitive prices to clients taking into account the truck size (capacity), distance, route profile, fuel and tyre consumption, toll road costs, etc.)

4)            Services (Admin, HR and IT):

  • Manage the support functions effectively to ensure that their contributions are adding value

  • Performance Management of staff

  • Oversee incentive scheme to ensure that it drives the performance at optimum capacity

  • Ensure Training end Development of staff to improve performance

  • Do succession planning in consultation with the HR function

  • Provide accurate reporting to MD and board

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation

  • Marketing of the business

5)            Customer care

  • Provide exceptional client service and continuously follow up.

  • Engage with current customers on a regular basis to strengthen the relationship.

  • Actively seek new customers and new business opportunities by building and expanding network of contacts and business acquaintances in public and government sectors.

  • Negotiate mutually beneficial contracts with customers that will yield long term and consistent profitable business in order to ensure sustainable growth over the medium and long term.
